Aisha and Tabeel’s wedding was a stunning fusion of tradition and modern style, celebrated across two beautiful Washington venues.
The festivities began at Vasa Park in Bellevue with a Mehndi night, featuring a dark, moody ambiance with peacock accents, lush greenery, and traditional South Asian elements like a henna station and bangle bar. The following day at WithinSodo in Seattle, the wedding day burst with vibrant colors—reds, pinks, and oranges—set against an industrial backdrop, blending cultural traditions with a contemporary flair.

Where did you get married?
Day 1- Vasa Park in Bellevue, WA; Day 2- WithinSodo in Seattle, WA
Why did you choose to get married at Vasa Park and WithinSodo?
Day 1: Vasa Park
We chose Vasa Park for its spaciousness and versatility, which are perfect for a traditional desi wedding. The large area with a stage provided ample room for guest dance performances. It’s conveniently close to our home and allows us the flexibility of bringing our own vendors.
Day 2: WithinSodo
WithinSodo offered the ideal blend of indoor and outdoor spaces, with a modular layout that we could customize to fit our vision. This venue allowed us to create a unique, personalized atmosphere, and, like Vasa Park, it also welcomed our choice of vendors.
What was the most memorable part of your wedding day?
Seeing it all come together. We spent a lot of time and energy to make our wedding a sustainable and authentic multicultural event(s) that captured our love and our life together. Getting to share that with all the people we care about most was truly a blessing!
Aisha, paint us a picture. What was the theme, style, colors, and overall vibe of your wedding day?
Day 1, Mehndi – dark and moody with peacock accents. Lots of greenery with a henna station and bangle bar for guests. More traditional South Asian event with bride & groom entrances with entourage and gift giving to the other side.
Day 2, Wedding Day – bright and colorful with reds, pinks and oranges, lots of florals and gold accents against the industrial space, blended culturally.
What was your favorite part of planning your wedding?
The florals! I wanted to make our wedding as sustainable as we could (without cutting our guest list) and thus, didn’t want to purchase living flowers that would be dead by the next day. Instead, I sourced faux florals from thrift shops and Facebook marketplace in the year before our wedding to build a floral arch, accent pieces, and table centerpieces of my dreams. We were able to find 90% of our flowers secondhand and reduced one of the biggest wastes of our wedding. The best part, we were able to share them with another couple after we were done with our events!
What was the best investment you made for your wedding?
Food! Our caterer was amazing; we ordered catering from a local Indian restaurant. We probably ate there 5-6 times before the event building our menu item by item. But at the end of the day, everyone was complimenting the food and asking for the exact menu so they could go and order it for themselves. My parents also drove to Canada during the week of our wedding so we’d have the best sweets for dessert. What a labor of love!
Is there anything you would have done differently?
Ultimately, I would be waaaaay more realistic about our budget and the cultural expectations of the event. There were some things we pushed for or sacrificed at the request of someone else that I wish I had been more confident about standing my ground on as we were planning. After all, costs balloon and if you don’t know who’s paying for it or how much cushion you have, it can lead to some hard or uncomfortable conversations.
What was your favorite part of using WedSites for your wedding?
Loved the guest tracking and information request features. Used those to get up-to-date addresses directly into WedSites. Also, just loved how nice our overall wedding website looked.
Aisha and Tabeel’s customed wedding website
Wedding planning is notoriously stressful. Now that you’ve gone through the process, do you have any advice or words of wisdom for couples who are currently in the midst of planning theirs?
Weddings are a big day and everyone has an opinion. At the end of the day, it’s your event, and you should make it what you want. Want a mountaintop ceremony with just you two or a destination wedding or an elopement? Go. For. It. It will be stressful no matter what, so why not pick things that will bring you joy. It’s not their wedding, it’s yours!
