A perfect mix of classic romance and laid-back fun, Tanika and Lachlan’s wedding at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Old Cathedral in Goulburn blended elegance with their down-to-earth vibe — complete with a 4WD photoshoot and a few mullets for good measure.
With a soft cornflower blue and white palette and guests dressed in vibrant colors, their day was heartfelt, stylish, and full of personality.
Where did you get married?

Why did you choose to get married at St Peter and St Paul’s Old Cathedral?
Because I am Catholic and wanted to get married in a Church, and because Goulburn is where my husband grew up. It is the most beautiful Church and whilst my husband is not religious, as soon as he saw it, even he felt chills. It was the perfect backdrop for us.
What was the most memorable part of your wedding day?
Reading our vows to each other during the ceremony. During a religious ceremony there is a certain structure you have to follow, and generally changes aren’t allowed, but we were lucky enough with our Priest that we were allowed to add in our own written vows. It made the ceremony so personal and special.
Tanika, paint us a picture. What was the theme, style, colors, and overall vibe of your wedding day?
It was kind of a mismatch of a lot of different aspects. Our colours were cornflower blue and white, with the guests in lots of colours. It was very classical, minimal and ‘elegant’ but also very true to us as a ‘bogan’ couple. We featured my 4WD in quite a few photos, and my husband and 2 of his groomsmen had mullets. It was very us. We wanted the ceremony to be very romantic and traditional, with the reception setting the tone for basically just a huge party.
What was your favorite part of planning your wedding?
All of it, I absolutely loved it! So much so that I am doing my diploma in event management to become a certified wedding and events planner haha. I particularly loved my dress shopping and designing process, so personable and fun with the best dress maker.
What was the best investment you made for your wedding?
Our photography and videography 100%! We recently got our full gallery back and WOW! If I could recommend one thing to splurge on it’s a reputable, well-reviewed photographer. We struggled to find a photographer who’s vibe was very ‘clean’ and ‘crisp’ rather then the ‘autumnal’ filters a lot of photographers use, but when we did, it did not matter the cost. We booked them straight away and I am so glad we did. The photos will be with us forever, for our kids to see and for us to put on our walls and I am so grateful we had who we had.
Is there anything you would have done differently?
A couple of things, but nothing significant enough to mention I would say. The only things that went wrong were things that I noticed, that can’t really be changed. Maybe finding a way to secure my veil properly as it came off as I was walking down the aisle. Also, telling the employees at the Church to open and shut the doors so I wasn’t just standing there awkwardly while everyone could see me when the bridesmaids and groomsmen were walking down the aisle lol.
What was your favorite part of using WedSites for your wedding?
It was so helpful to keep track of guest RSVP’s. We had quite a few people coming and it was so easy to just log on and check who had said yes and no, communicate to our caterers the dietary needs that were recorded AND make sure we had accommodation for people that requested it. Couldn’t have asked for a better website.

Wedding planning is notoriously stressful. Now that you’ve gone through the process, do you have any advice or words of wisdom for couples who are currently in the midst of planning theirs?
Honestly, the only people that matter are you and your fiance. I know everyone says it, but it is so true. I tried so hard to cater for everyone, but in the end I just said stuff it and did exactly what my husband and I wanted and it was perfect. Sure, you’ll get people saying ‘oh but this would be better’ blah blah. It’s your day, no one else’s. If they don’t like it, they don’t have to come and if they don’t come, then do they really deserve to be a part of your special day in the first place?
